The SCELC JSTOR Digital Stewardship Program is a multi-year, opt-in pilot initiative designed to help SCELC member libraries expand, preserve, and increase the visibility of their digital collections. By combining SCELC’s centralized staffing and subsidies with JSTOR’s robust digital stewardship infrastructure, the program offers scalable, affordable technology solutions that meet the digital collections needs of academic libraries.
Many libraries face barriers in launching or scaling digital projects due to staffing issues, a lack of expertise and technology infrastructure costs. The SCELC JSTOR Digital Stewardship Program directly addresses those needs by:
Centralizing project management and technical expertise
Providing subsidies to help libraries access advanced digital collections tools
Leveraging AI tools to address backlogs and enhance staff efficiency
Tier 1: Enhanced discoverability of digital collections through JSTOR
Tier 2: Integrated digital asset management and long-term preservation via Portico, plus Tier 1 features.
Tier 3: All of Tier 1 and 2, plus access to JSTOR Seeklight, an AI-powered collection processing tool.
SCELC applies its strategic services model to support libraries with consortially-managed infrastructure, cost savings and continuity of expertise. As a result, participating libraries can take their digital collections programs further.
