SCELC has signed a new subscription and open access agreement with Emerald Publishing.

“We appreciate Emerald’s collaboration in developing a model that aligns with SCELC’s mission to support innovation in scholarly communication,” said Teri Oaks Gallaway, Executive Director of SCELC. “Emerald plays a crucial role in amplifying research that addresses real-world challenges. By fostering equitable access to scholarship, we empower our diverse community of libraries and their researchers in advancing knowledge and discovery.”

The deal, which also included library consortium, PALCI, expands upon existing agreements with some institutions and makes Emerald journals available to other institutions for the first time.

"By partnering with these key consortia, Emerald is expanding access to our journals and providing opportunity for authors to make their valuable research available at no cost to scholars and practitioners around the world," said Gina McCue, Emerald’s Vice President and Director, Americas.

The SCELC and PALCI agreements mark Emerald’s inaugural read and publish partnerships with library consortia in North America. They reflect a growing commitment to meeting the needs of customers and researchers in the region following Emerald’s acquisition by New York-based Cambridge Information Group in 2022.
