The Scholarly Communication Committee (SCC) explores, identifies and recommends collaborative opportunities to advance scholarly communication in member libraries.
The SCC committee studies current scholarly communications models and trends and reports to member libraries on how collection development is being effected. In particular, the SCC monitors developments that threaten fair participation in the scholarly record and open access to scholarship.
The committee serves as a clearinghouse for the diversity of approaches to preparing campuses for changes in the scholarly communication system.
As a committee that explores, identifies, and recommends collaborative opportunities to advance scholarly communications in member libraries, SCC proposed to the Board a new set of values to guide our discussions. On September 27, 2024, the Board approved these values for the SCC:
A study of Open Access eBooks in libraries.
A report on two surveys conducted by the OER Subcommittee aiming to identify commonalities and different in OER programming across SCELC.
A collaborative effort between SCELC and OAPEN to amplify the usage of open access resources in SCELC member libraries.
