SCELC eResource Hackfest 2017
2017-07-14 UPDATE: Additional tickets are now available in case you missed the first run. Register via Eventbrite below!
Last year’s inaugural SCELC Electronic Resources Hackfest brought together librarians from across California and beyond to discuss common issues affecting electronic resources. Not only did we brainstorm possible approaches, but we also shared knowledge and combined efforts to build prototype solutions.
Projects from Hackfest 2016 include:
- Reusable code for turning catalog/data searched into RSS feeds (2016)
- Research on A-Z Database lists and how to better display resources (2016)
- Spreadsheets and scripts for automatically harvesting & calculating library usage statistics (2016)
- Reusable code for creating an eBook cover carousel (2016)
- Everything ERM wiki where librarians can share electronic resource tips, tricks, workflows, and more (2016)
Come join the group if you're interested in:
- Experimenting with tools for the rapidly-changing world of eResources
- Building skills by exchanging tips and tricks with other practitioners
- Getting feedback on ideas and projects
- Contributing to the SCELC eResource community
- Having fun!
Hackfest Details:
After a light half-day of introductions and mingling with your fellow Hackfesters, spend the next two full days brainstorming, solving problems, sharing solutions, and building networks. As a SCELC-funded event, registration is free for attendees from SCELC Member and Affiliate institutions. Attendees from non-SCELC institutions are welcome, and will be charged a registration fee of $65.
Attendance will be limited to 30 people, and SCELC attendees will have priority access to tickets over non-SCELC attendees. Participation in both days is required. Your registration will be followed by a brief survey designed to help registrants brainstorm ideas to bring to Hackfest 2017. Brainstorm survey results will be made available in real-time to all registered attendees, and we look forward to seeing a loose framework develop for the event before anyone even arrives on site.
Registration includes lodging. Housing will be a private room in a shared suite.
Breakfast and lunch are provided. Dinners will be the attendee's responsibility, although SCELC will arrange group dine-arounds in the area.
Attendees will also be responsible for any travel / transit costs. Parking is available at USC for $12/day; please use the Contact Form if you would like to make parking arrangements.
Registration is now open via Eventbrite:
