SCELC Opposes U.S. Department of Education's Plan to Halt IPEDS Library Survey

SCELC stands united against the U.S. Department of Education's proposal to terminate the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) library survey. Comprising 109 private academic and research libraries and 239 academic affiliates, SCELC emphasizes the survey's vital role in collecting comprehensive data on academic libraries.

The IPEDS survey is not merely a data-gathering tool; it is a cornerstone for informed decision-making and accountability in higher education. By enabling benchmarking and fostering collaboration among institutions, the survey supports academic excellence and accreditation compliance.

In light of its significance, SCELC urges the Department of Education to preserve the IPEDS library survey.

We also encourage stakeholders to voice their support by submitting comments before May 3, 2024.
