SCELC Reception at Internet Librarian

Monterey Institute of International Studies will once again graciously be providing the location for the traditional wine and cheese reception hosted by SCELC. Final details to follow.

As previously noted we will be temporarily closing the SCELC Office to make the move to our new downtown Los Angeles location.

SCELC will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27th and will reopen in our new location at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3rd. During most of this time, our phones will be disconnected and our email responses will be delayed. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, but we specifically planned this move during what has traditionally been our slowest time.

NOTE: Our phone numbers, payment address, and email addresses will remain the same after our move.

As of August 1, 2011 our new mailing address will be:

SCELC
617 S. Olive Street, Suite 1200
Los Angeles, CA 90014

Please note that payments should still be sent to:

SCELC
P.O. Box 60330
Los Angeles, CA 90060-0330

Thanks to all of you for your involvement with SCELC, and we appreciate your patience as we make this transition.

Since its incorporation as a non-profit corporation in 2001, SCELC’s offices have been located on the campus of the American Jewish University in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles. As SCELC has added additional staff and is now serving more libraries than ever before, it became evident that we require office space that better meets our technological and logistical needs.

Therefore, later this summer we are relocating our offices to an Art Deco landmark in downtown Los Angeles that is on the National Register of Historic Places. The Oviatt Building, where our new offices are located, has been the site of several film shoots through the years, including the infamous “snails” scene in Pretty Woman.

We’ll be sending out more information about our move in the coming weeks. We may need to close our office for a few days in late July/early August as we make this transition. If so, we will post information about any office closures. We’re confident, however, that this move will not interrupt our continued service to the libraries in the SCELC community.

Despite the move, our phone numbers will remain the same. As of August 1, 2011, our new address will be:

Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC)
617 South Olive Street, Suite 1200
Los Angeles, CA 90014

Though the TexShare/SCELC partnership is not even a year old, several private academic libraries in Texas have already partnered with SCELC to license electronic resources at a discount. We believe this partnership is off to a great start, and we’re looking forward to building these relationships even further in the coming years in an attempt to further leverage the collective buying power of private colleges and universities in both Texas and California.

We are inviting library directors, electronic resource librarians, and collection development librarians from private colleges and universities in Texas to a reception on the evening of Thursday, April 14th, from 5:30pm-7:00pm at the bar of the Driskill Hotel, which is a quick walk from the Austin Convention Center. This will be a hosted, come-and-go reception where you can join colleagues from private colleges and universities and meet representatives from SCELC. We’d love to meet you in person and learn more about the electronic resources for which you may be interested in seeking consortial discounts. Information about the Driskill Hotel bar can be found here: http://www.driskillgrill.com/driskill-bar.php
