Mission
SCELC empowers librarians working in private nonprofit academic and research libraries to
collaborate on access to and the effective use of library resources and services.
Vision
We envision a participatory community of librarians working together to lead innovation in
national and international policy and practice for access to electronic and physical information
resources.
Values
Access – providing efficient and cost-effective access to information resources on
the part of libraries and offering networking opportunities and professional development to
member librarians
Collaboration – actively involving members in the work of the organization and other consortia
by sharing expertise and best practices
Innovation – seeking new approaches to solving problems faced by member libraries and
SCELC as an organization
Integrity – being a trusted partner to provide quality service to libraries
Partnership - working with vendors as partners in achieving a fair value and a fair return
Responsiveness - serving all of our members by targeting specific resources to communities of interest
Transparency – open decision making processes, shared through the Board and through the
SCELC website
Diversity and inclusion -- Equity, diversity, and inclusion are fundamental values of the
consortium and are reflected in both the internal operations of SCELC as an organization and in
