About Syndetics: Syndetics works in concert with your ILS system to provide catalog enrichment elements. We define elements as book cover images, summaries, annotations, tocs, awards, etc. You can see the entire list of 13 elements and read more about them at: http://www.bowker.com/syndetics/services.htm One of the nicest parts is that you can pick and choose which elements you would like displayed in your OPAC.

About RCL: Resources for College Libraries, the premier core list for academic libraries, is the result of a unique collaboration between Choice, a publishing division of ACRL, and bibliographic authority Bowker. RCL is considered the long-awaited successor to the third edition of Books for College Libraries, published in 1988. This collection of recommended titles serves as the basis for a suite of resources for curriculum-development, student research, reference, and bibliographic instruction.

For your reference, Bowker provides access to the RCL in two forms:

  1. RCLweb, which includes an online database, enables easy searching by a variety of criteria including author, subject, title, format, audience, and LC Classification Number. Updated quarterly, RCLweb offers the most current core title selections for your collection development, reference, and acquisition needs. http://www.rclinfo.net
  2. BBAS-RCL, (includes RCLweb) Eliminate tedious manual comparison by electronically comparing your library's collection to the more than 50,000 core collection titles identified in Resources for College Libraries with Bowker's Book Analysis System. Bowker's Book Analysis System can provide you with a customized collection of reports that you can use to fine tune your collection in 58 curriculum-specific subject areas. http://www.rclinfo.net/analysis.asp
