Blackwell ECHO™
Blackwell has licensed Ebrary technology to build a perpetual access ebook hosting and distribution service. ECHO is the result of this effort and represents the most complete ebook acquisition, hosting and distribution system available to academic libraries. More than 30,000 ECHO titles have been loaded to Collection Manager, a number which will more than double in 2007. The same tools and services developed for print acquisitions have been made available for ECHO titles. Titles are sold on a perpetual access basis and are available as either Single User titles (usually sold at cloth list price), or as Multiple User titles (sold at 1.5 times Single User Price). All pricing is defined by the publishers; in most cases, both access models are available at the customer's discretion. A platform fee of $1,500 is required to establish a library channel site and is charged annually as a maintenance fee. Industry leading research tools have been built into the library-branded patron interface providing library users with a high quality, research oriented, environment that performs well under low bandwidth conditions. EBook Library (EBL)
Ebook Library offers more than 40,000 perpetual access titles from the world's leading academic titles. All EBL titles are inte¬grated into Blackwell Collection Manager, and are available for ordering on a title-by-title basis. The EBL model is based on the concept of non-linear lending, which allows 325 24-hour uses per year. The library has control over the length of a 'lending period'. A platform fee of $5,000 is required to establish service, and an annual maintenance fee of $750 is charged as long as ser¬vice is maintained. The cost of books is determined by the publishers, and is closely related to each title's print equivalent. Other options are available through EBL such as Demand Driven Acquisition, where all titles in the EBL catalogue are loaded to the system, but only purchased after requested by patrons and subject to library defined rules. Blackwell Digital Reference
Blackwell has created a service to facilitate the purchase and maintenance of online reference products created and maintained directly by publishers. Titles available through Blackwell Digital Reference consist of publisher destination websites. Each publisher has unique pricing rules and license agreements. Blackwell acts as a central administrative hub to manage the process of acquiring and maintaining access to such publisher sites. Digital Reference titles are maintained within our Standing Order database, which is accessible online through Blackwell Series Manager.
