SCELC Vendor Day 2005
EBL - Ebook Library
Ebook Library offers a variety of innovative and flexible ways to purchase and use ebooks, tailored specifically to the needs of university and research librarians and their patrons. EBL provides title-by-title selection of scholarly ebooks for multiple concurrent patron access with electronic reserve, chapter-level lending, ebook rental, and course pack functionality. With EBL, libraries have optimal control over their selection and budgeting processes and own the titles they purchase in perpetuity. EBL is available through our own offices and via Blackwell's Collection Manager and other global distribution partners.
New: EBL OFFERS DEMAND-DRIVEN ACQUISITION OPTIONS
EBL delivers a number of flexible purchase options. In addition to offering title-by-title ebook pre-selection by librarians, the entire EBL collection of titles can be made available to library patrons for limited free browsing. Purchases or rentals (pay-per-use) can be instigated by patron request at time of use, either automatically or with librarian mediation. Libraries can choose to make EBL's many thousands of ebook titles available via their library OPAC or within the EBL portal without any up-front payment.
Similar to a subscription model, libraries can offer a broad selection of titles. However, with EBL, libraries only pay only for the ebooks that are actually used. Titles that are purchased are owned by the library, without having to pay ongoing subscription fees for continued use. (And, of course, budget limits can be put in place by libraries to keep spending within desired ranges.)
