Callimachus/CONTENTdm
SCELC is pleased to introduce Callimachus, the Digital Collections of the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium. Callimachus is a service of SCELC, providing consortial access to CONTENTdm from OCLC and technical support for our members’ digitization projects.
We encourage many different thematic collections for Callimachus. Institutions are also encouraged to collaborate on collections, especially in cases where a single institution does not have enough items to fulfill the required number for a collection. The SCELC mailing lists may be used to initiate collaborations.
To get started using CONTENTdm for adding collections to Callimachus, there are a number of initial steps to complete:
- Purchase a CONTENTdm license from SCELC.
- Sign the Callimachus Submission Agreement.
- Read over the Collection Policy and view the assembled resources.
Complete and return the order form and agreement form to sign up for CONTENTdm and Callimachus with SCELC.
You will receive further instructions with steps for creating an account with the CONTENTdm User Support Center and for downloading the appropriate software from OCLC after you have signed up with SCELC.
The Callimachus Collection Policy has been developed by the SCELC Digital Initiatives Working Group (DIWG). Additionally, various resources have been created and gathered by DIWG to inform decisions on metadata and scanning. More documentation ideas or additional resources are welcome and may be submitted using our contact form.
With enough interest, SCELC will also coordinate regional OCLC CONTENTdm training sessions so that you may pool your training costs, thereby saving money on training. The cost for the OCLC training sessions can be equally shared among the participating libraries. We will be announcing the availability of these training sessions in the coming months. Let us know if you are interested in participating.
