About SCELC

The Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium was established in 1986 to develop resource-sharing among the libraries of private academic institutions throughout California. Since its inception, SCELC has evolved to include all of California and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt corporation. SCELC represents:

  • 111 member institutions
  • 120+ affiliate institutions
  • Approximately 290,000 aggregate student population
  • Over $149,000,000 in library budgets
  • More than 21,430,000 volumes

SCELC member institutions can choose from nearly 2600 electronic resources through over 123 vendors. SCELC currently maintains contracts whose cumulative value exceeds $32.5 million annually.
